The Malki Museum Agave Roast honors the desert agave (amul in the Cahuilla language), historically a basic food staple for the Cahuilla and Kumeyaay peoples of Southern California. Agave hearts are cooked in a traditional roasting pit and served with other customary Native foods, while community organizations share information on native plants and animals. Admission is free, with a suggested donation for food plates. Note that the museum will not hold a volunteer harvesting day in 2026.
