Heiser Farms has run its Grand Island pumpkin patch since October 1994, after John and Kristi Heiser settled on the island farm in 1991 and grew strawberries, melons, and pumpkins for local markets. Each fall, families pick pumpkins straight from the field at $0.45/lb and enjoy hayrides, a petting zoo, pedal tractors, a hay pyramid and slide, and Farmerville for free, with a corn maze, fire engine rides, barrel train, and the Grand Island Railroad as paid weekend attractions. The farm's signature pumpkin cannon fires on weekends, and visitors can launch one themselves for a $10 donation to breast cancer support. The restored 1930s-era red barn also hosts private events year-round.
Seasons and hours change with the weather and the crop — always check the farm's site before you go.
